Removing Heat Exchanger on a Alpha CB24 boiler

Hi all,

First post and hope you can help im looking to remove the heat exchanger on my Alpha CB24 give it a bit of a clean out as i feel this maybe causing inefficient water heating.

Ive never done this before and after guidance i.e any thing i need to watch out for? do i need to drain the system etc etc.
Naturally a step by step guide would be ace.

Best bet is to read the mi's

I expect that you mean the secondary heat exchanger.

If you need to ask such a basic question about draining the boiler then I would be concerned that you may not have enough skills to do that job.

The manufacturers MI are usually written on the basis that they are to be used by a skilled boiler engineer who has all the basic experience.

Its not a very simple job on your boiler either and there are many joints to be dismantled which are all possible leakages when its reassembled.

Admittedly a novice and was wondering if it was a simple job of taking the unit off and cleaning and then replacing again, have a basic engineering background but not plumbing. Have read that grit etc can often build up and cause issues here this does seem to fit the bill, hoped it was a case of isolating the cold and running hot taps to clear before removing. Also loathed to phone my plumber up for him to come out if i was able to do it.

you will get wet if you try doing it like that

Very constructive thanks for the help. If I am getting what I believe is not as hot water coming through the taps still plenty hot enough to shower but have known it to be hotter what else might it be and what could I do personally to remedy.
