Our house has 3 phase supply for water pump - now removed.
Consumer unit fine with RCD and MCBs, but also seperate redundant old style 3 phase fused unit, and lots of wires coming in and out of meter.

Would like to get rid of old 3 phase fused unit and unecessary wiring, plus have new meter and white meter fitted.

Who can do this work normal electrician or Supply Electrician?, also likely cost?.

First, get your electrician in to renew your side of thigns - he will fit a modern consumer unit, and connect it onto one phase. Then, if you need to get rid of the 3-phase head and meter*, phone the supplier and inform them you have a redundant 3-phase supply and wish to downgrade it.

*Another option is a dual-tarrif 3-phase meter. These are available, and may be fitted free, whereas removal of the old 3-phase supply stuff may cost you.

The supplier could even fit a single phase meter onto one phase of the service head. Plenty of homes are done like this, where a house is the last on the run, to terminate the underground cable.

personally i wouldn't want to get rid of the 3 phase head, someone may well wan't the extra power in future.

The DNO don't normally remove the head, (to much like hard work  ) they just pull two of the fuses and re-configure the metering.

It's worth doing because if you don't need three phases you'll reduce your monthly standing charge.
