Just wanted to check before I damage something.

Close lockshield valve and other valve and then unscrew nuts immediately next to the rad?

Will the rest of the system function as normal as i expect the rad to be awol for at least 1 week.

yup, simple as that! the rest of your heating will function as normal.
slacken one side off first and let the contents drain into a shallow container.
dont let any of that black gunk get onto your carpets its a nightmare to get off.
make sure you dont twist the valve going onto the pipework when slackening off the radiator! if you burst that you will need to drain your system to repair it.

Cheers mate. I thought I had it sussed but experience has taught me it is unwise to be over-confident.

To borrow from Don Rumsfeld, it's the unknown unknowns that can catch you out.

Remember, when you put the rad back, you will need to fill it, blled it & if you have a sealed system, top that up..WITH THE BOILER OFF.
