Afternoon All,

Can anyone suggest what the best way to take a painted, pebble-dash render off brickwork walls of a house?

The walls are going to recieve a Tyrolean finish once the render is off so I think if we could just take the paint and pebbles off this should leave a good enough substrate to which the Tyrolean can be applied, but any advice / comments would be appreciated.

It's also worth noting the the render isn't coming away from the wall in any areas and it seem as though there has been a lot of cement used in the original application.

Thanks,

Dan

i'll start thew ball rolling - hire something like a bosch 11kg breaker.

used one for that purpose recently and it was a pleasure to use after the kango 900 i started off with.

If the render is as hard as you say it is to come off then it is probably keyed to the brickwork very well. As for you being able to apply tyroleon on to the surface of the brickwork when the render is off you wont have a flat enough base to put it on. What makes you think you can put the tyroleon straight over the "good enough substrate" quote, that is left?

Exactly,,, tyrolean finish is normally applied to a flat rendered finish. If you put it onto a "hacked up" substrate, the finished job will look terrible.

Just to chip in, the lads are right.

Be careful you don't do more harm than good hacking off. If you need a breaker to get it off, then it's not going to fall off any time soon.

Your choice of finish , its your house. But you will have to render to get a tyrolene on it, why not just a finshed render ?

If the existing dash is sound, you can go over it. Bit of prep needed and you have to see clearance for doors and windows, but less hassle than hacking the lot off , render and tyrolene
