hi, can anyone suggest the best way to remove varnish from a exterior front door,so it can be primed,u/c and glossed, the varnish is not in good condition so just keying it up might not be good enough, many thanks
a good old good rub down will do the trick, try not use to coarse a sandpaper,if you do just use a lght grade one to smooth the surface out, then a good cleaning with a bit of white spirit on a rag before painting. a couple of coats of undercoat will do as a primer and then a top coat of gloss.
Remove the door and run a belt sander over it starting with a low grade and working up to around 240 grit silicon carbide (finishing paper) for smoothing.
