removing wax polish from wood

When I get waxed doors to paint , I use white spirit, scotchpads, elbow grease and a lot of muttering. Meths sometimes works well too. To finish cleaning off I use a little household ammonia in water, this cuts into any wax left, have to sand any grain which water has raised. Then to be sure nowadays I use zinnsser bin as a primer (it will stick to anything) and if they are knotty pine doors the bin will take care of any knots/resin streaks as it is shellac based. (thin/clean brush with meths) Then carry on u/c etc.
good luck
