Hi, I'm prepping specs for our single storey extension for our 1930's house and got stuck. I couldn't find an answer on here so open my own thread. What would you treat the plinth below the render with given that the outer leaf is dense concrete blocks. I know the DPC needs to be below the render but in this case the render will sit quite a bit higher. The picture doesn't reflect the situation exactly but if it helps the render will finish about 0.00 (level flooring and patio) the plinth will be about 700mm hight at the lowest point meaning the GL is -0.70m and falls further to the side. The pic gives an idea only. Anyway I want the plinth to be dark either black or anthracite. If I use engineered bricks can I continue with solid dense concrete blocks above those underneath the render? Or is there another water repellent coating you would suggest?

If you're at the build stage, use a wider DPC (so it sticks out of the wall) and render up to it with a thin coat.

I don't understand the text or the image! Builders will struggle.

Looks pretty clear to me, and always important to establish the location of the letterbox at the early design stage:

I think you are better off drawing a sectional view, as that would be easier to understand. Indicate levels

Also review your terminology regarding what a plinth is and what you think it is.
