Render or re-point?

Hi all,

Our external walls (inward facing) in our back yard are pretty scruffy and need a facelift to make the yard look nicer.

Would you recommend rendering or re-pointing and painting?

Some of the bricks aren't great and are crumbling/have partially crumbled, so may need replacing or turning?

Cost is going to have to factor into our decision because we haven't got a lot of money to fix this. K-Rend is out of our price range at the moment.

Any help is greatly appreciated
Cheers!

Peelaway will remove paint.
Do that yourself.
Then replace spalding bricks and repoint. Might need trade to do that although you can do it yourself.

Painting traps moisture causing problems in walls like that

The amount or prep, work and then future maintenance makes rendering the expensive option.

If you repoint, and replace the damaged bricks then repaint with a quality masonry paint then that wont be much different to render. Point it up with a flush joint and it will look better.

You will need to relay/replace the brick on edge though to stop rain getting into the wall and wreaking the joints, bricks and paintwork later.
