I have a building company doing a number of jobs in my house. Having repointed all the brickwork outside, I wanted a rendered plinth up to DPC level as the bricks below this level looked pretty tatty. I told the builder he would need to dig up the driveway as it had built up in layers over the years to the point where in places it was above DPC. Unfortunatly, he didnt listen and has rendered above the tarmac and because the tarmac was already above DPC, the render is now up to the next brick level. Am I right to be concerned about this?

Many thanks

Yes.
Anything that breaches/bridges the dpc can be a problem as this render material has the potential to wick water above the barrier that is the damp proof course.

Realistically you should be looking at keeping all paving etc 150mm (min) below damp. The render should be stopped, via a bell bead at the dpc, thus leaving you with 150mm or greater of un-rendered masonry showing below dpc.

if you have cavity walls then the outside level is irrelevent as long as you know for sure the cavities are clear.other wise as noseall says.
