I have knocked all the render of an old house not easy to tell when it was rendered last I want to re-render but have read alot about the house being able to breathe as its has already been rendered before and there was not any problems with damp before can I carry on and render with sand and cement?? The plasterer I have had come up and have a look has said he will spray on a sealer any help or advice would be much appreciated thanks...

Hi Stan - if you give a we bit more detail it would be easier to help. i.e, Is there a cavity wall. Is it all stone work on the outside.

Hi Cooptaza,

There is'ent any cavity wall and the outside wall is some stone block and red bricks, and natural stone...

I would just just scratch it as normal. 8mm scratch coat with waterproofer in it. Where the red brick or stone is you could scud it (slurry mix) before scratching it. Scratch coat bring it out level and render it smooth or dash it... Never heard of a spray on sealer before.
