i am wanting to render a crumbling wall in my garden about 3ft high do i need to coat the bricks with anything before i render it? what ratio do i use for the mix?

Be prepared to be disappointed as the render breaks down and cracks along the joint lines. Rendering spalled/perished bricks can be counterproductive.
