I’ve just dug on a 73mm ish, steel water supply pipe that’s leaking and i’m struggling to find any fittings to repair it.

Philmac UTC’s from my usual place only go upto 59-63mm.

I’m in the North East if that help, wai ai man.

Thanks

Thanks Nige :)

Maybe a 75mm VJ Aquafast? It says it’s for PE pipe but should be good for steel and it must tighten down to 73mm.

Do you agree with my sizing of the pipe:

steel waterpipes at mains pressure used to be required to have manipulative joints (belled or threaded).

Is that not now the case?

I don’t know, this isn’t a main, it’s just a service to a pair of cottages.

Can't you thread some PE trough it and attach at either end to a threaded section, thats a bit on the big side for two cottages.

Possibly, I daren't cut it yet until I can get a few fittings in the van.

What's happened Ian, did you leave the cottages without water over night? Or did you make a repair?

The Insurance Company have given them alternative accommodation until it’s repaired. It might get passed onto someone a bit more into the big stuff.

Got passed back to me :(

I used these Viking Johnson fittings and 63mm MDPE. They don’t prevent pull out (as I found out before reading the label) so I had to stake the pipe to prevent that.

I’d say that requires renewing entirely.

you're a hero Ian. I once repaired a 3/4" farm service pipe by welding over the hole in it . I got the water out first because .... 6 inches from the hole it converted to copper and I just undid the coupling and drained the water , and let the steam escape - gas welded it over. ;)

Good skills Nige!! I’d be clueless on anything other than compression and pushfit (y)
