Repairing blown plaster

thanks so much for replying @Alastairreid If it’s cement render what are the lines that looks like the edges of some kind of boards? Sorry if this is really obvious.

The lines are are etched into the render when it is still wet to make it look like blockwork.

They say if a job's worth doing its worth doing properly - that way you only have to do it once - not fooling around attempting remedial bits and pieces, & having to redo it all again in 12 to 24 months.

Have it hacked off, rendered & pointed & you will be good for at least 20 years.
Attempts at easier, softer methods are fools gold in the building trade as those of us who work in the trades know all too well.
