(I've read the rending page in Outdoor projects but wanted some additional advice)

We've recently moved into an old bungalow and there is damp in one wall of the house. Originally we were told that the rendering needed replacing but we've since had a couple of other people to look at it and have been told that all that needs done is the cracks to be filled to prevent water ingress into the walls and then simply allowing the walls to dry out by keeping the house warm.

I've been told that standard cement should be fine to fill them but wanted to check that this was the best thing?

I'm also presuming that standard cement/concrete colouring would be fine to help it blend in?

I'd be very grateful for any opinions or advice.
