Repairing damage from a leak

Hello,

I had a leak last year that damaged a few places, one being the join between a brick wall and plasterboard blocking up a door. I've scraped out the damaged plaster, I have mesh, plaster and Zinsser Cover Stain to repair the damage but my question is what order to apply them? The area that needs plastering seems to be the timber frame so do I put cover stain on there before plastering or after? Or, as I seem to have scraped back to the timber, do I need to put Cover Stain on here at all? There are some areas of plaster that are only stained so only need Cover stain and emulsion which is straight forward.

It depends.
On minor stains I don't use a stain block until I'm ready to emulsion.
Sometimes nothing bleeds through any filling or skimming so I crack on.
Sometimes I just skim it and stain block the entire wall. Problem can be the stain blocked area, especially if you use white can look brighter because of the stain block, so coating the entire wall blocks it all over so you get a consistent look.
You can use the stain block first like coverstain then fill over. That can be easier and quicker with large areas.
To answer. Before or after is fine.
