Hi,

We have a kitchen worktop which looks to be a stone laminate, but honestly I don't know exactly what it is - there are no exposed edges.
Looks similar to this caldeira.
It appears to have a melted section on it where there's some rubbery finish that has become compromised.

I'm wondering what I should do to repair this?.. (and what the consequences of not doing anything would be)
Don't know what sort of finish this type of worktop has or whether it would be easy to reseal this section.. varnish?
anyone got any tips on what's best to do?

Laminate is not heat proof, should never have hot pans etc on it.
You could used car body filler to repair but will be visible .Best option is replacement.

Thanks for suggestions - cost of replacement not in proportion to the visibility of the small surface blemish (yet).
Maybe not obvious from the picture but there's no hole to use filler in - it's like something clear has peeled off the surface. Barely visible other than the ragged edges. If it stayed like this I wouldn't care - but looks like the sort of thing that would get worse if not resealed... somehow.

You could try carefully tidying the ragged edge with a craft knife then applying a coat (or multiple coats) of clear polyurethane varnish.
