Repairing wall chases

Hi

Had the re-wire done and had to have a few of the walls chased.

Started to fill the holes with Filler (ICE Polyfill).

We had a decorator round to do some other work and he said it would all fall out. He then filled one of the chases with what he called ready mix fill. It set like a foam. Was still soft for several days but it now hard and set but still feels like a foam (all ready to put lining paper over)

Anyone got any idea what this might be? Seems lightweight and easier to use than filler.

Also, would you chip out the filler already in there or just do the rest in the foam like stuff?

bag of hardwall and then easi fill over it then sand

Are these better than just using much cheaper plaster?
