Hi

I want to replace 2 core+earth light switch with European 3 core and earth(neutral) switch(Z-Wave).

My research so far UK has 3 plate system - that is ceiling rose are connected in series and that from the ceiling rose a spur to the light switch with 2 core and earth. Europe do it differently -2 plate system that is they connect the light switches in series and then from the light switch a cable to ceiling rose. At the light switch there an additional neutral.

How can use the european light switch 3 core and earth.

Can I replace 2 core and earth with 3 core and earth and connect to ceiling rose or do I drop a second cable(2 core and eath down from the ceiling rose to light switch)

Yes you can use 3-core and earth cable to drop down to the switch to provide you with a neutral. Use the grey core for the neutral and sleeve it blue. Sleeve the black core brown and use it for the switch return.

You can possibly pull the new cable down by attaching it to the old one using the CPCs.

as it's z-wave ( ie wireless ) then does it need a switch wire? wouldn't the reciever at the light do all the switching and dimming?

I'm sure that Z-wave will be as successful and become as widespread as every other home automation system that preceded it.
