I have a flat 160m2 roof (shared apartment block) which is currently fibreglassed. It's showing signs of wear and I had a building specialist look and he said it can be repaired but that fibreglass is not really a suitable roof material on this scale.

He recommend that it would be better to use a polymer based product, specifically Polyroof Protec 185.

I can understand the logic that a flexible roofing system is better than a fixed one.

My questions are;

1. Has anyone got any experience of this product?
2. Is it suitable to be laid directly on top of the existing fibreglass roof?
3. Any other suggestions for a roof of this size?

Many thanks

Polyroof Protec s especially made to overlay various surfaces,it is ideal for overlaying grp plus it comes with a insurance backed guarantee and can only be installed by a approved polyroof contractor,you will find all the similar products with the same guarantees cost roughly the same others are triflex and Kempur the difference being the later two use a polyester fleece and Protec uses fibreglass.

I know next to nothing about the above materials but the OP says a "roofing specialist" said that fibre glass materials are not suitable, then, in the next breath, the specialist recommends a fibreglass material. According to their site Polyprotec 185 is a fibre glass material.

Maybe i have it wrong?

Its like a thick rubber paint with fibreglass matting sandwiched in the middle to give it strength but still remains flexible.

Thank you. So the fibre glass is only a component not the thing itself.
