Replace kitchen sink strainer waste - but old one seized

Hi all,

Trying to replace my second strainer (half bowl) waste in the kitchen after doing the first one successfully. However, this one has seized to the extent the strainer is loose in the bowl and just rotates around. Is there a special tool to stick on top of the larger slotted middle nut to hold it? Any top tips? As you can guess it is completely leaking at the moment so the half bowl does not get used.

If the slotted piece is a hexagon use a socket and a bit of wd40 always works for me

Or poke the jaws of some snipe nosed pliers through the waste rose, and twist that?
