I'm lowering the ceiling in the ground kitchen from 2.7m to 2.4m and insulating the gap above by using a 38mm x 68mm CLS timber frame. Usually I would screw this frame into the brick wall using masonry screws but there is a high window that comes up to 2.6m. The window has 2 units 1 lower (swings) and 1 upper (fixed). The window's upper unit (2m to 2.7m) needs to be replaced with a plastic equivalent. Can I buy and fit myself a plastic equivalent by calling up a window specialist e.g. https://www.wardgroup.co.uk/double-glazing-glass? A follow on question is that to extract the cooking fumes I need an extractor fan or extractor hood and the previous kitchen cooker used a grease trap (now binned) so can I core a hole through the plastic (to be fitted) upper window unit and fit an extractor fan?
