Hi all,

Replaced washers on both sides of a leaking kitchen tap, switching the water off at the mains.

I've switched the cold water tap back on and the water is discoloured, then 'hammering' out - making the pipes move with big gaps in the water stream. Weirdly it looks like steam or smoke comes out occasionally as well.

The hot tap isn't hammering, but it's also discoloured. I'm running the tap at the moment to let it run clear...

Any ideas what I've done here? :-/

Lots of cold mains stopcocks have a loose jumper I bet yours was nicely stuck and has now come loose and is banging up and down . Try adjusting the stop cock you might be lucky.
