replacement backup battery

i have bought a replacement battery for my intruder alarm system. the one thats currently in my system has no markings or info on it,so i bought from ebay a 6v battery. when i disconnect the old battery the bells start ringing ,when i connect the new battery nothing happens, if i reconnect the old battery the alarm will stop..

is the 6v battery not enough to power the sterling 10, do i need a 12v battery.

Yes ! 2.1ah min 7.0ah if it will fit which it should in a sterling 10
