Replacement Friction Hinge issue

I am trying to change the hinges on my windows but I have run into an issue

The old hinges have a flat end cap and the new ones have an enclosed one, I didn't think this was going to be an issue but when I try to put the new hinge on the end cab buts up to the side of the sash and the frame and because its enclosed it sticks out to far and the window wont close.

I hope that makes sense, if not I will try and get some more images
