Looking to replace gate, that's been in place for over 30 years.
The width between wooden posts is 907mm & height of gate is 1.75m. Just started to look on internet & it seems 900m is the standard width. Would a 900mm gate have enough clearance between post's?
What timber construction should I be looking for & what type of hinges also.
Regards Doug

900 should be alright but make sure it is sealed all the way round with preservative as it will swell being out in all weathers.
If it seems to be a bit close you could always plane the vertical stiles a bit to make sure it clears easily. You don't need a tight fit like a door.
I changed mine two years ago and changed the fitted butt hinges for 9" strap hinges. Hasn't dropped since I fitted it.

BTW I went for oak, cost a bit extra but hoping it will pay off in the long run through not needing replacement every couple of years.
