Our house has two hardwired smoke alarms. One appears to be faulty as it constantly rings and fails to reset. The wire from the ceiling has a plastic 4 pinned connector. In terms of a replacement, do all hardwired smoke alarms have the same connector type? Don't want to mess about cutting wires etc, need a replacement which will just plug straight in.

Any suggestions or advice would be welcome.

No not all smoke alarms have the same connectors, I guess the four pin connector, will have live, neutral, earth and link wires. They are generally not the difficult to re-terminate to different base units. Do you known the make of the existing one and the age of it?
Are they battery back-up maintained? It maybe that the battery needs to be changed.
