Hi Guys

A double glazing company has measured and manufactured 'J' shape bay (one large and two smaller windows) double glazing windows. The result is that the bay window is the wrong size, gap of 12cm, probably much more.

1)What the installer did in his first attempt was leave the window boards in place and try to install, as can be seen in Window1, there is a gap between the frame and the wall. He didn't even add 'knock on's'.

2)What the installer has done in his second attempt Window2 is add 'knock ons' and remove the window boards, move part of the frame forward to reduce the gap. They haven't been able to replace the original window boards, they took them away.

3)But this has created other issues. The finish between the frame, bay pole and beading has cavities (the bay pole is set back, but we've been told that it can be moved forwards) Window3. The vertical finishing strips haven't been installed.

4)Too much of the frame has been covered up by a finishing strip (the company has stated this is within their installation standards) Window4.

5)Original frame showing 'J' Shape bay window Window5.

We took pictures as the installation was in progress.

A couple of questions, what does the window board sit on? What joins the window frames together, the technical name?

Thanks in advance for your advice.

Looks like the end window has been made 100mm too short or the angles on the welded sill are wrong
Demand it to be put right
Hopefully you haven't paid in full
Pictures are poor, can you upload some more

Hi DHF

Does that help?

The surveyor didn't measure beyond the visible frame, he didn't remove the old trim to see how much of the frame was behind the trim, picture of the old frame is below, the trim is intact, not checked by the surveyor (look to the left, he checked the bay pole by removing a bit of the finishing strip).

The surveyor has replicated the existing sizes presuming they are correct.
Looks like the old bay was 100mm short on the end window, the surveyor has presumed the trims are there for a reason and gone with the same width, when the trims really should of been removed.
It's not correct, the installation maybe within their standards but is defiantly not within surveying standards

Baypoles are between the windows.
Add ons are your "knock on" sections

The window boards will sit on the internal wall

Hi DHF

Thanks for the info.

I also think that one of the small bay windows has been measured incorrectly, but can't be 100% sure because the survey sheet isn't making a lot of sense at the moment (some info missing). The width reads 530mm on the survey sheet, when measured it's actually 505mm. The small bay window opens out.

The 15mm discrepancy is where they deduct the bay pole from the overall measurement.
530 is from the weld of the sill to end of the window

We're getting there with this. Just to add they didn't use support jack's when they removed the bay window, which they should have done.

Is there an acceptable gap between window frame and the wall?, the field manager quoted 50mm to us, I need to find out.
