Hi

Our oven died. Since it was plugged into a 13A socket I figured the simplest thing was to buy a new oven that could plug into the same socket.

I bought a single fan oven/grill rated at 2200W and was told this could plug into a socket. However there's no mains cable or plug supplied and the instructions include scary statements about how I have to use a 16A double pole supply.

Can someone tell me whether I can put cooker cable onto the terminals, add a 13A plug and then plug the oven in to the existing socket. I asked if the oven I bought could do this. Have I been mis-sold?

Thanks for your help,

Matt

16A probably refers to installing the oven in Europe, where individually fused radial circuits are common.

You need a couple of meters of 1.5mm 3core flex and a 13A plug.

Don't use 'cooker cable' - it is not suitable for fitting into a plug.

Thanks for the advice - very helpful. :D

It's amazing to me how hard it is to get common-sense advice from manufacturers/suppliers/etc. Everyone's trying to cover their back!

Cheers,

Matt
