Replacement UV cylinder

Thank you ScottishGasMan - just what I needed. The boiler is a Vaillant 438. The main problem being (as you said) that HW does not have priority, so with radiators heating the boiler flow temperature is usually insufficient to re-heat the cylinder to max.

Given, at the moment, we run out of HW only occasionally, I think I'll persevere and maybe have the blending valve fitted with an increase in cylinder temp as you suggested. Plus also ask the kids to limit their time in the shower (!).

I'm almost hoping the Megaflo fails so I have a good reason to replace it with a larger cylinder :=)

Appreciate the advice.

Luckily for you, the vaillant has excellent control options (yes I'm biased) have a look at the "VSmart system" control, or the VRC700 controls. Both can be retrofitted (you may need an extra cable run from boiler to cylinder compartment)

They give you priority hot water, and weather compensation, as well as being able to set different temperatures to feed the HW from Heating, and set different powers for each, ie, when hot water heats you could have boiler running 30kw at 80 degrees flow to cylinder, then it can switch to radiators, and drop to say 20kw with a variable flow temperature anywhere between 30 and 70 degrees depending on how warm it already is in the house.

I've got a 215l unvented cylinder. From dead cold took about an hour to give me piping hot water. I'd suspect
They're made from stainless steel which has a reasonable scrap value. Copper and Brass even more so. To unlock the value though, you need to separate the cylinder down into constituent parts, metal by metal. Don't take the cylinder along as a cylinder... the scrappy doesn't want to be paying for the weight of lime scale so you need to demonstrate your cylinder is a pile of metals, not a cylinder.

The scappies won't take these cylinders as they're a grade of stainless steel which is ferrous and for some reason these scrappies don't actually know their metals. They are unaware that there are loads of grades of stainless, some non ferrous, some ferrous.

I've come across this before, true enough. Stick a magnet to a stainless steel sink and he declared it not stainless..... despite the lack of any rust whatsoever!!! I wasn't aware that a cylinder was made from the same stuff though - shame!

They still took my sink as ferrous though.
