Hello,
just replaced my motorised valve, its a 3 port midi valve.

However , have stumbled accross small problem..
new valve has less wires,
Will I need to fit a differnt valve? or is there a way to convert the wiring?

old valve had six wires :
white
orange
green/yellow
red
blue
yellow

but new valve has only 4
white
gray
orange
blue

thanks for any help

Using wiring colours to convert would be guessing. We need to know the make and model of the valves.

The old Valve is a Smiths switchmaster midi valve actuator VA1

the new valve is a Sunvic SDMV2304

regards

Louis

That's torn it, I haven't a clue about a switchmaster. A good thing to do would be to ring Sunvic and ask them for the conversion.

Then please post the info on the forum so we have a record.

I would guess the earth wire can go on the plastic sunvik....can't you follow the others through?

3-port mid position valves:

................................. SwLive ..........HWon .......CHon..... HWoff

Honeywell 4073 etc......Orange...........................White.......Grey
Switchmaster Midi..*.....Red...............Orange......Yellow......White
Sopac ZV20EB..............Red...............................White.......Grey
Many ..........................Orange...........................Brown......Grey

Many means Danfoss Randall HSA3, Potterton/Myson PMV, Pegler/Sunvic SD1701

*LinkRed&Orange to make SwLive for pump and boiler

In all cases earth is Yellow/Green and Neutral is Blue

2-port Valves:
.....................................Sw Live........Motor....... Live
Honeywell 4043 etc..........Orange.......Brown........Grey
ACL 679B308-30L1...........Black ........Brown........White
Sopac ZV20 - 2 EB...........Red........... White.........Grey
Many..............................Orange.......Yellow........ -

Some valves eg Satchwell/Sunvic SMX203 have white wire which should be removed.

Honeywell Grey wire should be connected to permanent live....BUT some people connect the Orange to a permanent live and use the Grey as the Switched Live.

There nust be a better way of doing a table!

The pdf valve is for a 2701, I don't know how this compares to a 2304.

Many thanks for the table ChrisR, bet it took longer to write than to change a valve.

i know that's why i said does this help, couldnt find that particular one on the manufacturers website

LouisC, have you got any other code numbers on the actuator head?

Hi and tanks to all,
ChrisR got it, Sunvic could not help as they had no details for the Smiths Switchmaster.

I had cut the Switchmaster cable to allow me to see where it was connected, and connected the new pump to that cable.
I will need to re-do the entire system wiring as it is currently not in
a proper terminal box , but all stuffed into the isolator switch box, not tidy
but it is secure.

I connected as follows:

Switchmaster Sunvic
white grey
Blue blue
yellow white

orange and red spliced and connected to Orange on Sunvic

System booted no problem!

original failure was the Switchmaster valve leaking and shorting out the
actuator, luckily I had recently put a proper consumer unit/rcd setup in place so system shutdown was reasonably safely done, makes for a sleep in on Saturday though, when the house is all quiet and dark after the CH timer tried to start a wet system at 6am!

thanks again to all.

Louis
