replacing 2g 1w switch with dimmer

Dear All,

usually, this is straightforward, I just put the wires in the holes corresponding to those the old switch, however the existing switch, a crabtree, has no common label.

a conduit install with the lives taken from switch to switch would match the wires his picture shows.

I see this often Ban, there are two lives present at the switch and they are each connected to a common and linked through.

my maxim, if you aren't sure what you are doing, try not to second guess why the other guy did what he did, as long as it works.
