Replacing a conservatory

I've got a fairly rubbish conservatory on the back of my house which I'd like to replace myself.

Plan is to build one that's slightly smaller than the original footprint with a solid roof (probably tiled), and I'd like a full brick wall on one side and half brick/half glass on the other two.

Do I need to involve building control or get planning permission if it remains separated from the rest of the house by the existing exterior grade patio doors, and within the footprint of the original conservatory?

Building the thing should be simple, the potential legal nonsense could be a nightmare...
