Hi all, I’ve been renovating my 12 year old house and have come round to replacing the fireplace. It looks pretty straight forward. Is this something I can do on my own? Appreciate I will need someone to come and install the new gas fire.

i understand that you intend to completely remove the present surround and fire?
is the inside wall timber frame - dot and dabbed - or plastered blockwork?

you need a Gas Safe to disconnect and re-connect any gaswork.
what about elec connection?
whats on the other side of the wall - a flue arrangement, an extractor or a chimney breast of some kind - can you post a pic?

Hi, it’s blockwork and the plasterboard is dot and dabbed onto the brick.

The electric switch is to the left of the fireplace for the lights and the isolation switch to the right for the gas. There is a purpose built chimney behind The fireplace for the existing gas fire. It is a modern 12 year old house. I have attached some photos.

Essentially, your pics show a large bush?

If the gas and elec are isolated - check, check, check - then the fire can be removed, the fire back, and then the surround.
Use a knife to cut any sealant/paint/paper from the outline edge of the surround - to free it without damage to decorations.
Fixing screws should become visible once the fire is out., and the whole surround should come away.

From your pic i cant tell if what you have is the original custom made surround or something thats been boxed together?
And given you have D&D wall then it might pay you to have the Gas Safe installer remove the old fire and surround before fixing the new fire and surround?.

You will need the new fire and new compatible surround on site before any installation starts.
