Replacing a single ceiling light, Help

Hi,

I'm a complete new comer to all things DIY and I have just removed the old light from the front room in my new house and am replacing it with a standard single pendant style light.

The wires do not come out of the ceiling far enough to fit into the terminal box.

What can I do?

All advice welcome!
