I'm trying to replace the washer in a tap, which is not a problem I've done it loads of times before.

The problem is that I have no idea how to remove the top of the tap fitted in my new house.

The bathroom sink taps are single hot and cold, the taps have no visible markings or name. They are a concealed nut type, the tap has a flat metal top which is about 3cm in diameter with a fluted edge around it. The tap handle is metal and fits flush to the tap's spout.

I've tried levering the top off but it appears to be screwed on and there is no way to get any purchase on the top to undo it!

Any help gratefully received.
