Im assuming Blue Wire to neutral, Brown to SL(On) and red to L(in). But the issue is there are two red wires- both to the same one?

Any suggestions?

No that is incorrect

Blue Neutral
Brown live
red Live (L in) at the top
Red SL on

remove the link that is there, it doesnt matter which way round the reds go, I am guessing that the two reds were joined together temporarily when your old stat went faulty, if not it would never have worked, it would have been on all the time

Looks like there is a link internally somewhere in the boiler. Do you mean remove the link (Red wire) on the new thermostat transmitter?

Thanks guys!

All working now- I had forgotten what it was like to be able to turn off and on heating without going into a dark damp room!
