Replacing an Immersion Heater

hi mate

changing an immersion heater is easy

first of all switch off the mains water as turning the gate valve on the cold feed doesnt always work and can pass water anyway

turn on all taps in the house to drain the tanks upstairs

when the water has stopped you then can change the immersion

turn off the main electricity and undo the live neutral and earth from the immersion stat then unscrew the immersion from its socket(BE SURE TO PUT SOME OLD TOWELS AROUND THE BASE OF THE CYLINDER AS THERE WILL BE RESIDUAL WATER BUT NOT TOO MUCH SO DONT WORRY)

you dont have to drain the whole of the cylinder

next take the new immersion heater and put the washer provided on and then get boss white from a merchants and put plenty around the thread screw the new immersion heater into the socket being carefull not to cross thread and tighten fully bu hand then get a hammer and just tap the spanner to fully tighten the immersion

rewire the live neutral and earth close all the taps and switch on the mains water again

job done

by the way i am a plumbing and heating engineer and have done this thousands of times

regards

dave
