I am about to replace a broken toilet and I would like to use a more modern design that fits closer to the wall.

The current toilet was installed in about 1960, and connects directly to the soil pipe which comes up through the floor.

I have never replaced a pan before but most of the ones I have seen have soil pipe exit at the back which means that I cant put the new pan closer to the back wall.

Whats the best way of doing this properly? should I move the position of the soil pipe in the floor (which will not be easy) or are there other options?
