Hi there,

We are revamping the kitchen and replacing an under-counter freezer and a cooker hood. The freezer was wired directly to an FCU on the wall behind the freezer, and the cooker hood to an FCU in an adjacent cabinet. In each case I took out the fuse and cut the cable in order to remove the old appliance. Is it OK (for Building Regs) just to wire the new hood and fridge/freezer into the existing FCUs?

But much better to replace the FCU with a socket and plug the new appliance in.

Been much safer to to isolate at fuse board, ten prove dead, then remove load side cable/flex from FCU. Rather than cutting in to flex, where you are relying it is dead by removing fuse only, without testing.

Providing you prove what you have done is safe, yes!
