Hi. Have a mixer tap unit fitted onto a steel bath. Plumber did not manage to fit it 'square', ie, parallel to the wall, so looks awful. Also suspect that the rubber gasket has been damaged owing to the use of 'Dettox' to keep on top of black mould. Intend to refit the unit probably using flexi tap connectors to overcome any alignment problems that the plumber had. Do not wish to reuse the gasket but plan to smear bathroom silicone sealant over the base of the mixer unit to, hopefully, make a seal and then refit. Will this work?

Shouldn't be a problem.

I try not to use silicon on taps if I can help it.

Now would be a good time to fit isolator valves if not fitted.

If fitting tails make sure the pipe your connecting to is nice and square/no sharpe edges.

Hope this helps rob

If you are going to use silicon, you would find it useful to create a thin gasket to give the tap support while you tighten the nuts up, but make this gasket a few mm smaller than the footprint of the tap base, thus snabling the silicon to spread in and out. Wipe any excess silicon up immediately!!
