Hi all,

I'm hoping to replace the bottom 2 steps in my existing straight staircase with either double or triple going curtail steps (on the right hand side - the left is against an interior wall). This project would include removing the existing bottom newel and replacing it with a curved handrail end (decorative swirl) and 3 or 4 spindles on the bottom step (and if possible changing the closed string to a cut string).

There is plenty of space in the hallway for the curtail steps and it's mainly for decorative purposes that I'm doing this.

Is this a job that is simple to do as DIY, or should I contact a local joiner?

Many thanks, Dave.
