The brackets and joints holding up the cast iron guttering on the side of my house have all gone. (Have scaffolding in place for a roof job so know this to be the case). Want to repair if possible if not replace with matching appearance.

One quote said that it would as cheap to install new cast iron as to repair. Said cast iron and cast aluminium would cost about the same. Also said gutter must be replaced in the same number of sections, as it is at present. The second quote proposed cast aluminium in one run. Both quotes suggested cast aluminium would oxidise and lose its colour quite quickly.

(We can't use "cast iron" style UPVC as the leading brands do not make it in a style which matches existing guttering and we are not about to have the entire house redone. )

Any comments anyone?

Isn't the aluminium powder coated so it won't rust? Check your timber fascias havent sagged before fixing the new cast.

personally i'd have the aluminium.
