I want to replace a single ceiling light in the bathroom with 6 low voltage downlights. I have bought the downlights, which claim not to need transformers. They are not connected to each other. How do I wire up these 6 lights to the existing circuit? Can I run them all off one junction box? Can anyone help?

Low voltage downlights need transformers. Mains voltage is 240V and low voltage halogen lamps run at 12V.

There are now mains voltage halogen downlighters which run at 240V. If you have these you can connect them together in a junction box.

Before you disconnect everything at the ceiling rose, make a note of which cables are connected where (taping cables that go to the same terminal together is a good idea). Also note the two that are connected to the bulbholder (use a different colour tape maybe) - these will be the supply to your junction box.

Follow manufacturers guidelines about location and ventilation - you don't want to cause a fire...
