replacing floorboards

Hi everyone, first post here.

Is it safe to replace my upstairs bathroom floorboards with cement board? I plan on tiling the floor. I want to avoid having a large drop to the carpet on the landing so would like not to lay cement board over the floorboards.

Personally I think that cement board has little strength on its own, and I wouldn't use it in this situation.

Thanks, ill look at another option, although I can't think of many

Its not the best practice but you can lay tile straight onto T&G boards.
Use flexible adhesive and flexible grout.
First make sure all the boards are firmly fixed.

Then keep your fingers crossed.

Ive just found 6mm so going to lay that on top for boards. Thanks for your help
