Replacing garage door lock - stuck

Hi,

I am trying to replace a garage door lock. At the back, from the inside of the garage, there is a strange "key" in the bolt, which I think needs to be removed before the lock can be taken out. Can anyone advise how to go about doing that?

It is a cotter pin and can be removed by pulling from the loop end. Probably need a tap with a hammer to loosen the rust first.
