I'm going to replace the lamp holders in a couple of GU10 240V downlights. The current lamp holders (Kangrong K512GU) have live and neutral connecting wires but the replacements I've ordered don't. Assuming polarisation not an issue here but would be grateful for confirmation.

Do your GU10 lamps have L&N written on the pins?
Can you only put the lamp in one way?

If the answer is no then there's no polarisation issue.

I often see 230V GU10 terminals marked L&N, heavens knows why.

Maybe a CE requirement, or a job creation scheme for the little chinese boy who put on the stickers..

Since line and neutral are both live one really should take the same precautions with both. And with GU10 there is no real difference between the two.

Yes some items do have line (L) and neutral (N) marked on them even when there is no neutral. Good example are 110 volt plugs and sockets where we have line 1 and line 2 and earth with no neutral but still marked as (N). Even the wire cores are often blue instead of black.

In Europe often plugs are not polarity fixed. In UK we are not allowed to use non polarity plugs except for shavers which at IT supplied anyway but Europe does not seem to have huge problems with no polarity on the plugs.
