Replacing mechanical central heating timer

We have a Drayton SM1, which makes the usual mechanical ticking:

It's in our kitchen, so looking to upgrade it to something silent. Do all timers use the same wiring, or should I look for something specific?

In fact, that website shows another timer that use the same backplate and wiring - would it really be as simple as unscrewing the existing front and replacing it with something like this?
