We are taking out an old fire from our new house. It was a fire place that would burn real wood and coal and would also heat the house via water pipes.

We are in the process of taking it out now and have found TONS of these little shiney gold almost polystryne little pebbles but we dont know what they are?!!! Does any one know??

Thanks,

Sarah

It is vermiculite, an insulating material packed round the boiler to stop heat loss into the structure, also known as micafil.
