Replacing Recepticle

Can I replace a recepticle without turning off the power? What should I do? Wear rubber gloves? I should be fine as long as I dont touch the wires right?

Some sparks work live when they have to - ie. when the distribution board is 2 floors down. But it is not recommended.

Always turn the power off.
Rubber gloves are not the answer.

you need to check the local laws (i stronly suspect from your use of the term recepticle and the mods message that you are not in the uk) about live working, here in the uk it is only allowed if other options are determined to be unreasonable.

either way even with the proper insulated tools and gloves (proper ones with gauranteed insulation properties not ordinary rubber gloves) dealing with live cables is something i would stronly reccomend any diyer to avoid.
