Hi All

New here so bear with me - I find myself here after a recent bad experience with a tradesman unfortunately.

We have a 3 story house and the top bedroom has a rotten room beam due to a leaking window. The window will also be replace but I need to know from all you experts if the whole beam would need to be replaced or just the rotten part - its just at the end where it sits on the wall plate (see photo).

The beam runs up the slanted ceiling then down the other side (in the other top bedroom). Can this be cut off and just the rotten part replaced, if so how would it be joined correctly? Or are we talking a full replacement from the top of the room to bottom?

Thanks in advance.

You might be able to sister [timber along side existing] the timber or even add two timbers, add new to one side to secure , then cut back rotten timber and then add second timber with all three secured together.
